Help
Quick answers to the things you'll want to do. Can't find yours? Reply to any email Radius has sent you, or write to [email protected]. A real person will get back to you.
Something wrong?
On your phone, tap the gear, then Settings → App & Help → Report a problem. On the web, go to Settings → Report a problem. Tell us what you were doing and what went wrong. It goes straight to a person at Radius, along with the app version, your phone, and the last time the app crashed, so you don't have to look any of that up. You'll get a copy by email, and you can reply to it with more. Or just email [email protected].
If Radius ever closes on its own, it sends us a report the next time it opens. That report has the error, the app version, your phone's model and OS version, and which account it was, so we can match it to you if you write in. It never includes your location or your messages, and we delete it after 90 days. Noticed the crash? A quick problem report saying what you were doing helps us fix it faster.
Get the app
Radius is in testing on Google Play's testing track right now, and it'll be public on Google Play soon. Updates come from the store. You won't find a download on this site, so always get it from Google Play.
Radius is in testing on TestFlight, Apple's beta program, and it's coming to the App Store soon. Use the same email, Google or Apple account on the web, Android or iPhone, and your account, free month and family plan come with you.
Your account
There's no sign-up form. Sign in with Google, with Apple on an iPhone, or with your email address. We'll email you a six-digit code that works once, for ten minutes. If the address is new, that code creates your account right away. No password to make up! The same account works in the app and at radiusfamily.com/app. On the web, Sign out is at the top right, and signing in with a different address switches accounts.
Tap the gear, then Settings → Signing in. Scan the code with any authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Aegis, 1Password) and keep your ten backup codes somewhere safe. After that, every sign-in asks for a code, whether it's the app, the web, Google or Apple. We don't use text message codes, since those are the easiest ones to steal.
On the web, Settings lists every phone and browser signed in to your account. Tap Sign out next to any of them to sign it out. The phone app doesn't have this list, so if you lose a phone, sign it out from a browser. It only takes a minute.
Scroll to the bottom of Settings and tap Delete my account, or do it from the web. Your messages, photos, history, places and connections are all removed, and the files are wiped from our server's disk. It asks you twice, because it can't be undone.
Your family plan
Tap Add someone to the plan. Pick from your linked people, or type in their email address. If they already have Radius, they're linked to you and on your plan right away. Anyone else gets an email and joins your plan the moment they sign in with that address. There's nothing to approve. Radius doesn't send text messages, so for anyone without email, send them your code or invite link yourself. You'll find both at the top of the People tab.
The card lists everyone, with "Manager", "For life", "Paid until…" or "On the plan" under each name, and shows how many of your plan's spots are used. Tap Remove next to a name to take them off. After that, they keep Radius only through their own plan or free month.
During your free month, the card shows how many days are left and offers Keep it going after the free month. Once you're paying, the link under your plan takes you to wherever you bought it: Manage in Google Play, Manage in the App Store, or, for a plan bought on this website, Change card, see receipts, or cancel. If you cancel, your plan keeps running until the end of the time you've already paid for.
Tap Add one spot · $9.99 a year to add a spot to your plan. Four becomes five, and your monthly price stays the same. The spot belongs to the plan, not to one person, so your family can change who fills it. Add as many as you need.
You can do both! Your card shows Managed by … above Your family plan. Add your own people below, and they'll see you, not the family above. You can leave the plan you're on any time from that card.
Go to Settings → Your Radius plan → Have a code?. A code from Radius unlocks the app for you. Some codes also make you the manager of a free family plan.
Who sees what
Open the People tab. Each person has two switches: They can see where you are and They can see where you have been. Each one works in one direction, so you can see someone who can't see you.
Yes! Sign in from any web browser at radiusfamily.com/app. You'll get the map, messages, Activity (who arrived and left where, and when, plus severe weather near anyone), each person's history, places, the family plan, SOS and find my phone. The one thing a browser can't do is share where you are. For that, you'll need the phone app on Android or iPhone.
You're the manager, so you decide, one person and one direction at a time. Someone new on your plan sees you and nobody else until you choose who else they see. Go to Settings → Family plan and use the Sees: chips under each name. Nobody is ever shown who else is on the plan. Each choice works one way, so Sam can see Riley's dot without Riley seeing Sam. Turn it on both ways and the two of them are fully connected, with the map, messages and calls.
Your places are under the map, in the Places row. Open a place and choose who sees it: Just me or Everyone who sees me. New places start as Just me.
Go to Places → their card, and set each pin to On map or Hidden. They choose whether to share it, and you choose whether it shows on your map.
On the People tab, turn on Tell me when Alex… arrives / leaves for each place you both have. Arrivals and departures are separate notifications, each with its own time. Muting someone silences these too.
Open your conversation with them and tap mute. Their messages stop making a sound, their calls won't ring your phone, and you won't get alerts when they come and go. It only affects that one person.
This one's Android only. Go to Settings → Notifications & sharing → What you are listening to. It's off until you turn it on. It needs notification access on your phone, and it only reads the song title, never your notifications.
When it matters
Press and hold the SOS chip on the map. A five-second countdown starts, with Cancel right under your thumb. When it ends, a full-volume alarm goes off on the phones of the people you chose, and they'll see where you are. On Android it sounds even on silent or Do Not Disturb. You pick who, person by person, on the People tab (Enable SOS for this person). Tap I'm safe now to silence it for everyone. SOS sounds an alarm on their phones. It doesn't send text messages. You'll also find SOS on the web, in its own tab.
Go to Settings → SOS & emergency contacts. The SOS screen shows a one-tap Call button for each contact and a Call 911 button. Radius isn't an emergency service, so in a real emergency, call 911 yourself first if you can.
On the People tab, tap Share where I am. You'll get a link anyone can open, with no app and no account. They see one dot showing where you are right now. They never see where you've been, or anyone else in your family. Pick 15 minutes, 1 hour, 4 hours, or until I get to one of your places, which ends it when you arrive. The most is 8 hours. A bar across the top of the app shows it's on, with Stop. The link can't be guessed, and search engines don't index it.
Tap yourself on the map, then Watch me…. Say how long, or pick a place. If you haven't said you're fine by then, your own phone asks you first. Only if you still don't answer do your people get an alarm, with where you are. Arriving turns it off. Radius keeps the clock on our server, so it still goes off if your phone dies. Just like SOS, it sounds an alarm on phones and doesn't send texts.
Tap yourself on the map to open your own card. It shows who opened your card or your history, and how often. The map refreshing on its own doesn't count. Want to know every time someone looks? Turn on Tell me when they look me up for that person on the People tab. It starts off. Nobody can see who looked at anyone else.
There's nothing to set up and no flight number to enter. When a phone goes quiet in airplane mode and then shows up far away, Radius knows it was a flight. The people who get your arrival alerts hear that you landed, and where.
Questions
Locations, messages, calls and alerts work anywhere your phone has GPS and data. The phone apps use Google Maps on Android and Apple Maps on iPhone. The web map is Radius's own, and it covers North America (the US, Canada and Mexico). Address lookup covers the United States. Turn-by-turn directions cover the whole United States, using Radius's own routing. Radius is made for families in the United States first.
Yes! It's in TestFlight now, getting tested before it goes on the App Store. The Android app is on Google Play's testing track at the same time. Both share where you are, and both are coming to the stores soon. Anyone can use the web app in a browser today.
No. Your phone always tells you. Outside a family plan, nobody gets added until you and they approve each other by name and face. On a family plan, the manager can let someone see another person one way, so a parent can see a child without the child seeing them back. That's what a family plan is for. Either way, you're covered on your own phone: whenever Radius is sharing your location, there's a notice in your notifications that the app can't turn off. There's no way to share you without you knowing. And your own card shows who has looked.
Only the people each person has approved, and only as much as that person allows. Locations are stored on Radius's own servers in the United States. They're not on Google's servers or with a data broker, and they're never sold, mined or used for ads. Nobody makes money from knowing where your family is.
Family Plan: $2.99 a month or $29.99 a year for up to four people, with every feature, after a 30-day free trial. Switched from another app and brought your people? It's up to six. Family Plan+: $3.99 a month or $39.99 a year for up to ten. A plan bought on this website moves between the two by itself as your family grows or shrinks, and the price is prorated. A Google Play or App Store subscription is changed in that store. A yearly plan never changes size partway through the year. One more spot: $9.99 a year adds a spot to your plan, so four becomes five at the same monthly price. The spot belongs to the plan, so your family can change who's in it. Add as many as you like. If you stop one, the spot stays until the end of the year you paid for. Radius Solo: $12.99 a year for just you, with no plan to run. Join any family that gives you their code, and invite people of your own.
Ten days, and then it's deleted automatically. That includes SOS alerts, flights and Watch me get there records. Messages, and the photos and videos in them, are kept for fourteen days by default. Want to keep a conversation longer? Save it on your own phone or in your own Google Drive.
Only when they need to. Our server helps the two phones find each other, which takes just a few kilobytes, and then the call goes straight between the phones whenever the network allows. On most mobile networks it can't, because carriers put phones behind a kind of shared connection (carrier-grade NAT) that stops them reaching each other directly. Then the call goes through one of Radius's three US relay servers instead, and the call screen tells you. A relayed call is never recorded, stored or listened to. The relay just passes along data it can't read.
Yes, right from the app, and it really does delete everything: messages, photos, history, places and connections. The files are wiped from our server's disk too, so nothing is left behind.
